Human Factors

Project Description: Bio-mechanical handle for an X-Acto® type knife in which the knife's handle can be adjusted in width for various sized hands, and various tasks.

Related Human Factors:
- Recommended hand tool (screw drivers, hammers, saws, ect.) handles range from 1 inch to 1.5 inches in diameter.
- Recommended minimum length of hand tool handles is 4.5 inches.
- 45 degree angle between handle and work surface is best for sufficient downward and lateral pressure. Also enables user to keep wrist straight while working.
- A thin "pencil" sized handle is best for precision while a thicker Òscrew driverÓ handle allows for more pressure.
- Current X-Acto® sizes range from 5/16" to 7/8" in diameter and 2 3/4" to 4 3/4" in length.
